Thermal Printer vs. Direct Thermal Printing: What’s The Difference?

Direct Thermal Printing and Thermal Transfer Printing are two of the most confused terms in the printing industry. Although these two sound the same and perhaps produce the same high-quality products, they differ in more ways than one. They are quite similar because both of them use heat to ensure that printing is done on whatever surface is used. However, a print ribbon is used to transfer an image on a surface in the Thermal Transfer Printer Technology. Direct thermal printing does not use any ribbon at all. It directly applies heat on the ink so that it is transferred to the surface of the item being printed on.
